Marc Sloan Reel to Real Vol. 1

Marc Sloan Reel to Real Vol. 1

We are very proud and happy to be part of the actual international music project by our long time friend and collaborator Marc Sloan. The project focuses on the changes and possibilities of artistic collaboration over distances in times of Corona.

Our contribution to the album is entitled ‘Rufe über das Tal’ (Calls over the valley).

The fresh printed CDs just arrived at Marc’s studio and we are looking forward to get some copies.

Check out the online release on Marc’s bandcamp site.

There is also a trailer available on YouTube!

A.O.S.C. – Nervensystem

A.O.S.C. is a group of autonomous networked machines (agents) transforming the environmental soundscapes at 5 international places into a realtime composition of abstract electronic music.

blackhole-factory has sent out 5 microphone agents to distant places where they permanently register the current soundscape and stream their analysis of the sound spectrum into the installation space.
A central computer interprets this information with regard to frequency, texture and synchronous events. The emerging space consists of music, light, the movement of a machine and 3d printed objects.

The release ‚Nervensystem‘ is focussing on the musical aspect of the project and contains excerpts of the live recording of the 24 hours performance on april 4-5 2016.

Each agent controls a drone as well as a series of short tones produced by a FM synthesis patch programmed in Max/MSP.
During the 24 hours performance the system autonomously recalled presets for the FM synthesis patch. The interpolation between presets was controlled by the amount of synchronous events within a certain frequency band at two or more places.

The agents and their hosts:
agent01: Berlin, Germany – Barbara Slawig
agent02: Lviv, Ukraine – Ostap Manulyak, Mykhaylo Barabash
agent03: Victoria, Canada – Paul Walde
agent04: Londrina, Brazil – Chris Vine
agent05: Sydney, Australia – Roger Mills
installation space: Studio_A | Kunstmühle Braunschweig, Germany – Elke Utermöhlen, Martin Slawig

Martin Slawig: live processed objects
Recorded during a one week stay in a cottage at a lake near Fürstenberg, Mecklenburgische Seenplatte in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR).
It is a large forest area with lots of lakes where you can walk for hours without meeting anybody. And it is near the former Neuthymen Nuclear Missile Base of the Soviet Armed Forces in Germany. This area is now abandoned. But it is still surrounded by a large concrete wall and barbed wire. Warning signs along the wall and the trees at the street through the forest mark the area as a very dangerous place. It seems to be better not to walk in this forest. Nobody knows how much old ammunition rests have been buried in the ground.

From the Ethernet Orchestra website:

“Diaspora” is the debut album from the Ethernet Orchestra, an Internet based music ensemble founded by Roger Mills that explores the performance of intercultural tele-improvisation. It is a compilation of live freely improvised vignettes from performances recorded between 2009-2014. It features musicians from a diverse range of cultures and musical traditions performing simultaneously between Iran and Australia via North America, Canada, Brazil and Europe.

During this period we also had the great fortune to collaborate with the late Richard Lainhart, who is featured on many of the recordings. Ethernet Orchestra would like to dedicate this album to Richard, whose passion and generosity touched us all and his music continues his presence in our lives. Thanks also goes to Richards wife, Caroline Meyers for the sleeve design.

The album is free to download from the netalbel Pueblo Nuevo.

Ethernet Orchestra have also collaborated with networked VJs Helen Varley Jamieson, Neil Jenkins, Graziano Milano and Michael Szpakowski who have mixed live cinematic visual collages to a number of our performances in the networked A/V platform VisitorsStudio. These can be viewed here.
